Nketiah to West Ham failed due to injury

Crystal Palace had agreed a 27m deal in principle to sell Eddie Nketiah to West Ham, only for injury to pull the plug on the move, The Sun reports.

The striker picked up a hamstring injury in training and the deal was called off.

The Athletic adds that a separate deal for Callum Wilson to join Crystal Palace had also been on the cards. The Eagles did end up signing striker Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves on Deadline Day.

But Nketiah's failed move is another January window blow for the club after a deal for Dwight McNeil did not go through in time and Jean-Philippe Mateta's move to AC Milan was called off due to a knee issue.

Why February 5 is another key deadline

Premier League clubs have to register their new squad for the final part of the league campaign by Thursday February 5.

That is significant for any players who are free agents once the window closes, with the likes of Raheem Sterling still looking for a club.

Unless they move abroad, they must have a club by today otherwise they will not be able to register to play in Premier League games for the remainder of the season.

The only exception is if a club does not use all their 25 spaces when they register their squad on February 5. They can then add free agents up until the fourth Thursday in March.

O'Neill confirms Celtic interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain

Icon

Celtic boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed the club has held talks with ex-Arsenal, Liverpool and England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain about a potential move to the club.

The 32-year-old left Besiktas in August but has been without a club since, and spent much of the January transfer window training with former club Arsenal while also entering negotiations with the Bhoys.

Celtic can take their time over signing the midfielder with their only time constraint Thursday's deadline if they wish to register him for their Europa League squad in time to face Stuttgart in the knock-out play-offs next week.

Speaking to Your Site, O'Neill said: "We were speaking to Oxlade-Chamberlain, and I think he's training at Arsenal at this moment, and Arsenal may even offer him a contract, If that's the case then that's really great.

"At 32, I was astonished that he hadn't been picked off. I know he was talking about his difficulties out in Turkey, but someone of that sort of experience would have been great.

"It may still happen, because he's out of contract but he will have a number of options, probably closer to home. But if that materialised, that would give us something."

Walsall have completed the signing of Jago Godden from Bedford Town.

The 22-year-old will have to wait for his first appearance at the Bescot, however, as he's heading to Ireland to spend the next 12 months with Drogheda United on loan.

Ronaldo expected to end his Saudi strike

Latest from Your Site News' Kaveh Solhekol:

Senior Saudi football officials are now expecting Cristiano Ronaldo to end his strike and play against Al Ittihad on Friday.

His return to action has not been confirmed but officials are hoping he has made his point and Fridays game will be too big for him to miss. He is also contractually obliged to play unless he is injured.

Al Nassr could go top of the SPL on Friday if leaders Al Hilal drop points against Al Akhdoud tomorrow.

Saudi officials believe Ronaldo is still in Riyadh despite reports he has flown to Portugal.

Al Nassrs official X account has posted pictures of his teammates and manager Jorge Jesus today, but so far there have been no images of Ronaldo since Sunday.
