Winter Olympics: Matt Weston claims first Team GB gold medal of games in skeleton as Marcus Wyatt misses out on medal

Matt Weston has won the first Team GB medal of the Winter Olympics with a gold in the men's skeleton.

Weston, the current skeleton world champion, had the overnight lead, and produced a track record in all four of his heats to finish +0.88 seconds faster than any other competitor with 3:43.33.

His fourth and final run was greeted with jubilant cheers from his fiance and family in the stands as he became the first British man to ever win gold in skeleton.

After a quadruple of fourth-placed finishes, the medal ends Team GB's wait for their maiden medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

"[It means] everything. It means a hell of a lot to me personally, I have worked so hard for this," Weston said after winning gold.

"Everyone back at home, my fiance, my family, my friends, everyone that has sacrificed for me to be here. I have missed funerals, birthdays, everything for this moment and it feels amazing."

"Even if you're not part of my close circle, if you play the National Lottery you're supporting me as well so thank you so much. Hopefully I did you proud."

Marcus Wyatt, the other Team GB medal hopeful, finished ninth with a 3:45:77 overal time.
