Tudor named Spurs head coach for rest of season

Tottenham rejected Bergvall approaches from PL rivals

Tottenham Hotspur rejected enquiries from Chelsea and Aston Villa about midfielder Lucas Bergvall in January, according to The Athletic.

Bergvall has been unable to hold down a regular role in Tottenham's starting line-up this season and two Premier League rivals made contact to check his 'situation.'

But Spurs were not willing to let the Sweden international leave the club.

Slot: Konate is vital, we want him to stay

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has revealed his desire to keep Ibrahima Konate at the club - calling the defender "vital" to his plans.

The French defender's contract is up at the end of the season but no agreement has been reached yet over an extension - despite Slot confirming that talks are underway.

Its just as good from him as from Virgil [van Dijk], said Slot of Konate's form.

Ibou has had a very good spell recently. He had a lot of good games earlier in the season but then he was also part of the reason why we conceded a goal.

His general performances were good but then a small mistake he made immediately led to a goal and so he was judged differently. But he is having a very good partnership with Virgil since Ive been here and, just like Virgil, he has always been fit. Touch wood. These two are vital for us, not only because of the quality they have but because of the lack of options we have behind.

We are in talks with him so that tells you what we want.

Its clear we would like him to stay but negotiations are ongoing so lets see where that ends. We wouldnt be in negotiations if we didnt want him to stay.

Horncastle explains Tudor appointment

Italian football expert James Horncastle explains why Igor Tudor could be the perfect short-term appointment for Tottenham Hotspur.

Ronaldo set to end Saudi strike

Latest from Your Site News' Kaveh Solhekol:

Cristiano Ronaldo will end his strike on Saturday and is set to play for Al Nassr against Al Fateh.

Ronaldo has missed his side's last two Saudi Pro League games plus their Asian Champions League Two match against Arkadag because he has been unhappy with the way Al Nassr were being run.

Ronaldo hinted at his return when he posted a number of training pictures earlier today with the caption "locked in."

Al Nassr can move back up to second in the Saudi Pro League tomorrow and one point behind leaders Al Hilal if they win at Al Fateh.

Al Hilal went three points clear of Al Ahli today after a 2-0 win over Al Ettifaq.

Euro football expert reacts to Tudor news

European football expert Andy Brassell gives the lowdown on Igor Tudor's background, as the former Juventus and Marseille coach takes charge of Spurs on an interim basis till the end of the season.

Can Tudor keep Spurs in the Premier League?

The Athletic's Serie A writer James Horncastle on Igor Tudor:

Playing a back three will depend on whether he has the centre-backs to do that. The injuries make that a problem at Spurs. He does favour playing the Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini way 3-4-2-1. But he has shown himself to be adaptable in needs-must situation. And this is one of them.

What you will see in Igor Tudor in his press conferences, hes quite an affable character. When he was a defender, he was rough and ready, elbows out, he wasnt afraid to be a badass. But in press conferences hes very personable, friendly but in the dressing room and on the sidelines, he is someone who expects disciple. That tough guy does come out.

Theres certainly a belief that Tottenham need leadership not just from players such as Conor Gallagher or when they tried to sign Andy Robertson but also from a coach. He believes he has got what it takes to be that leader.

He will know the smell in the dressing room of what a relegation fight looks like. When he was at Udinese, he didnt have the players Spurs have in the dressing room. He will look at it and be relatively confident of delivering the minimum objective of staying in the league.

There will be players in that dressing room who have worked in Serie A and know how coaches expect players to work in that league. That will help him start life at Tottenham. My only fear is the fixtures they have got. Its a tough start.

Robinson signs new Salford contract

Karl Robinson has signed a new contract as Salford boss.

The League Two side currently sit in sixth-place in the division, with a club-best 52 points from 29 games so far.

The news comes a day before Salford face Man City in the FA Cup fourth round.

Livingston sign former Hearts player McKay

Livingston have signed Barrie McKay until the end of the season.

The winger was a free agent after leaving Hearts at the end of last season

Livingston are currently nine points adrift at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

What is Igor Tudor like to work with?

The Athletic's Serie A writer James Horncastle on Igor Tudor:

Juventus have a motto: winning is not important, its the only thing that counts. Its certainly the only thing that counts when youre in a relegation battle.

Tudors first jobs were as interims. If you look at all 12 of his jobs, hes only stated the season on three occasions. Hes come in as a firefighter, hes Mr Wolf. Hes someone who cleans up messes.

He did the interim jobs at Lazio and Juventus where he was essentially there to stop those teams falling out of European qualification.

The thing thats relevant here with Tottenham is he started at Udinese, who were at risk of going out of Serie A for the first time in a quarter of a century. They were on a ten-game losing streak. He came in, stopped the rot and kept them up.

He didnt get the job on a permanent basis, but Udinese were in the same position a year later and he came in. They were a point off the drop and kept them up. Thats exactlyt what Tottenham need him to do find the potential in the team.

Hes worked with a couple of Spurs players before. He had Dejan Kulusevski when he was the assistant to Andrea Pirlo at Juventus. He had Rodrigo Bentancur as well. He speaks Italian and Spurs are a group where a large part of them have been signed from Serie A. Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie came from there.

He would love to be considered as a clubs first-choice. But he knows hes not and hes ok with that. Hes tried to step out of that pigeon hole. At the beginning of his career, he was known as an escape artist. He would come in and rescue teams.

A certain Fabio Paratici who was a co-sporting director at Tottenham, he was one of the people who put Andrea Prilos coaching staff together at Juventus. And a lot of people saw that, even though Tudors role was as a No 2, he was better that someone who could just keep teams up.

And this time last year, when he was called in to replace Thiago Motta at Juventus, he was tasked with getting them into the Champions League and got them there.

He believes that he is a man for the big stage. A man for a team in the Champions League. Jventus are a bigger club than Tottenham and he showed himself credible for a time to be the Juventus coach. Well see how he does in this job.

He will want to put himself in the frame to get a permanent basis. If that doesnt work out and he does a good enough job to keep Tottenham in the division then he might see this as a chance to put himself in a position for other Premier League jobs, which are coming up in Crystal Palace. He feels its a win-win situation for him.
