Birmingham 0-0 West Brom: Struggling Baggies hold Chris Davies' side as Blues miss chance to go into Championship play-offs

Birmingham missed the chance to move into the Sky Bet Championship play-offs places after they were held to a 0-0 draw by West Brom in the West Midlands derby.

New West Brom boss Eric Ramsay remains winless but claimed a second successive draw and clean sheet to help his side move two points above the relegation places.

West Brom had lost 11 of their last 12 league games on the road and faced the daunting task of trying to get something from a Birmingham side who had the fourth best home record coming into the fixture, but managed to claim an important point in their fight for survival.

Birmingham felt hard done by that they were not awarded a penalty when Paik Seung-Ho saw his goalbound header blocked on the line by the arm of Callum Styles in an evenly contested first period.

The hosts banged on the door to get the all-important opener but were denied on the line for a second time when Charlie Taylor kept out Ibrahim Osman's effort, before August Priske's stoppage-time header was cancelled out for offside and Carlos Vicente hit the post.

Birmingham's Chris Davies:

"Over the course of the game we felt we could have won that match with the moments we had around their goal.

"There's a feeling of frustration, we felt we could have got it but in the end we take the point out of it and that's how it is. We grew stronger as the game went on and lots of late pressure, one of those nights.

"We had another gear to go to in the second half and I think we got there but we need to be sharper and quicker in the first period. The main thing is we managed to finish with some good momentum."

West Brom's Eric Ramsay:

To get back-to-back clean sheets was huge and fundamental for us to move forward.

"We're going to need everyone to step up, especially those experienced guys.

"I think up until 92 or 93 minutes we were in good shape. We did ride our luck towards the end to an extent, I can't pretend otherwise, but we made our own luck by getting to that point. Just desperation keeping the ball out of the net, we needed that."
